I am a dual qualified Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Hand Surgeon, and a Medicolegal Expert Witness. My NHS practice is based at the internationally renowned St Andrew's Centre for Plastic Surgery & Burns, one of the largest specialist Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery Centres in Europe. My NHS practice consists mainly of adult and paediatric hand surgery (trauma and elective), skin cancer and general plastic surgery. My private practice is very similar to my NHS practice, however I also treat cosmetic surgery patients and patients with functional cosmetic surgery issues such as after weight loss or pregnancy.
I am the St Andrew's Anglia Ruskin (StAAR) Research Group Lead and a Visiting Professor at the School of Medicine. I have over 120 peer-reviewed plastic surgery, hand surgery and cosmetic surgery publications and presentations at national and international level, with aspects of my PhD having been front cover published by the British Journal of Dermatology. I am the author of 2 best-selling surgical textbooks and have over 20 academic prize awards and distinctions.
Plastic Surgery Training:
I studied medicine at University College London, during which time I completed a BSc. After completing a Plastic Surgery PhD, supervised by Professor David Sharpe OBE, I completed my Plastic Surgery national training in London. My training placements were at prestigious university-associated teaching hospitals in London (including UCL, Royal Free, Chelsea & Westminster, St Mary's Paddington).
Cosmetic Surgery & Hand Surgery Fellowship Training:
After being awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery (FRCS Plast), I completed further specialist training in Cosmetic Surgery and Hand Surgery. I completed 2 Aesthetic fellowships at leading international Cosmetic Surgery institutions (Wellington Hospital, London Clinic, King Edward VII) and 2 prestigious Hand Surgery fellowships (Pulvertaft Hand Surgery Centre, Chelsea & Westminster Hand Surgery Unit). I have also spent further time training abroad in Australia, Europe and across the UK.
Academic Qualifications & Medical Education Involvement:
In addition to completing a PhD, I was successfully awarded both the British (DipHandSurg) and European (EBHS) Diplomas in Hand Surgery. I am currently an official tutor for the BSSH British Hand Diploma (University of Manchester); this is a higher sub-specialty qualification for Plastic Surgeons and Orthopaedic Surgeons wishing to undertake a career in Hand Surgery. I supervise Plastic Surgery trainees, organise and am regularly invited to participate in a variety of national and international surgical training courses; I am also a Visiting Senior Clinical Lecturer and Educational Supervisor at Anglia Ruskin University School of Medicine where I am responsible for the training of undergraduate medical students.
