Philip Ahrens is a Consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital Hampstead. He practices specialist shoulder and elbow surgery in the NHS and privately at Cleveland Clinic London. His main clinical interests are in shoulder and elbow arthroscopy, sports injury and joint replacement.
Philip is active in both research and training, having been awarded the British Elbow and Shoulder Society’s European travelling fellowship in 2004, and is the lead investigator in multicentre clinical trials, and other research.
He was Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
He is an Honorary Consultant to St Luke's Healthcare for the clergy, and St John's Hospice.
He has served as Orthopaedic departmental Clinical Lead and Clinical director at The Royal Free Hospital and served on the research committee of the British shoulder and Elbow Society and is an advisor to the National institute of Health research.
Recently, Philip has been appointed Deputy Chair of the Institute of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Plastic surgery for Cleveland Clinic London, a world renowned healthcare organisation that will be opening a new Medical Outpatient Centre in September 2021 and a state-of-the-art 184 inpatient bed hospital in early 2022.
