Bio: Mr Colin Hart read Medicine at Leicester Medical School. He trained in London and the East Midlands. He was awarded an MD by University College London for his research into muscle ischaemia. He successfully secured the Pan-London Colorectal Fellowship before taking up an Honorary Consultant post at University College Hospital. He has been a Consultant General, Colorectal and Emergency Surgeon at the Royal Free Hospital since 2015.
He is proficient in keyhole and open procedures for abdominal and pelvic surgery and can perform these under local, regional or general anaesthesia as appropriate. He has a special interest in managing complex abdominal wall hernias and also performs major abdominal and colorectal procedures in the treatment of bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, adhesional and other obstructions of the bowel. He is experienced in the assessment and management of sudden onset and long standing abdominal pain. He is familiar with the emergency management of all perforations of the digestive tract and has performed thousands of operations on the abdomen/ pelvis.
Mr Hart is also experienced in the traditional options of managing more minor complaints and favours novel but proven techniques (such as Transanal Haemorrhoidal Dearterialisation THD), for the safe management of haemorrhoids. He treats skin lesions including pilonidal disease, performs excision biopsies, treats all hernias and manages anorectal complaints such as abscesses, fistulae and fissures.
Mr Hart provides a kind, safe and reassuring service which places his patients at the very centre of all decision making. He aims to return patients to their normal activities as soon as possible, with clear discharge instructions and with as minimal disruption as possible.
