Dr Creer studied at the University of Cape Town Medical School, graduating in 1991. He undertook his specialist medical training in London including the Royal Free Hospital, the London Chest and St Bartholomew's Hospital. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and has been a specialist respiratory and general medicine physician since 2004. He is a Member of the British Thoracic Society and the European Respiratory Society.
Dr Dean Creer has specialist expertise at clinical assessment and interpreting chest x-rays, chest CT scans and other specialised breathing testing. Additionally he also performs bronchoscopy to allow the visual assessment of the breathing tubes, having performed over 1500 procedures in the field.
Dr Creer has a broad range of respiratory expertise including the assessment of common respiratory symptoms such as cough (including longstanding cough, coughing excessive sputum and coughing up blood), wheezing, breathlessness, positive TB skin or TB blood tests. He also provides investigation of possible lung cancers including patients requiring lung cancer screening and its related symptoms or risk factors.
Dr Creer has expertise managing conditions like asthma, COPD, unexplained breathlessness, chronic cough, lung cancer and patients with suspected lung cancer, pneumothorax and pulmonary embolism. Dr Creer has a particular interest in chest infections specifically Tuberculosis, Non-Tuberculous Mycobacterial infection and Bronchiectasis.
