Dr. Mittal is a sub-specialist consultant cardiac radiologist based at Harefield Hospital (Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital NHS Trust). He is also the Head of Imaging at Harefield and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Imperial College.
His particular interest is in CT and MRI of the heart for which he is well recognised nationally. These techniques provide valuable information about cardiac disorders which is complementary and sometimes superior to existing modalities such as echocardiography and nuclear scintigraphy. CT coronary angiography is now emerging as a non-invasive means of excluding coronary artery disease in patients with chest pain.
Dr. Mittal's areas of research are in risk assessment with coronary artery calcification, imaging of coronary heart disease, heart failure, and heart and lung transplant imaging. He has been successfully organising an international course on Cardiac CT for past 4 years, which is the only course of its kind in UK. He is an active member of number of national and international professional cardiac/ imaging societies particularly British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging, Working Group of Euro CMR and is a founding member of Society of Cardiovascular CT.
